UNKNOWN
Normally, the first prompt of the month would be given to us by Rachel, but that girl is busy, busy, busy with her big move and asked me if I could put together the first February prompt. So I came up with one that I hope you all enjoy!

The Unknown....we live it everyday...you think your day is pretty well planned out, "normal" and then BANG, something comes up...a phone call, an appt changed...there's a multitude of unknowns that occur in our lives everyday. Are you afraid of the unknown? Do you like what the unknown might have in store for you? How do you handle the unknown? Everyone looks at it a little differently...

I see the unknown as a journey. Yes, sometimes the unknown may bring heartbreak, but sometimes it can bring great things, challenges or excitement. Recently I had a wonderful "unknown" happen to me, winning DSA at work...it's an honor to win DSA and those who do are seen as the best of the best in my company. I was totally and completely taken aback when they announced my name...it honestly was one of the best days of my life besides marrying my hubby and having my son. So I titled my page The Unknown, it's a journey" and started with a black background it gave me a feeling of the great unknown, the big, huge universe and the so many possibilities out there.

TECHNIQUE TO TRY
Try stitching something on this page...and don't worry if you don't have a machine, you can hand stitch! I just now have learned to use my sewing machine that I bought 2 years ago...and trust me, stitching doesn't have to be perfect! I just started stitching big, crazy circles on a black background and the rest of the page grew from there. The stitched circles made me think of stars in the universe. I then stamped a big red circle and then "unknown" in yellow and with a gel pen wrote the rest of my thought. I also used a bit of spray paint with a mask.

And don't worry about covering up the stitching on the back of your page...it will give you more texture for your next prompt! Or in my case, I incorporated it into the same prompt and my thoughts on the unknown being a journey. My journaling reads "take a trip into it. open your eyes....look at what's around you and make the most of it..."

So have some fun with stitching on this prompt and Journey into the Unknown! I can't wait to see what you all come up with!

  1. I LOVE stitching on my pages BUT... I binded my journal with just enough pages for the prompts so if I go sew on the page, I will have to use the back (and sewing) for the next prompt!!! That should be challenging... but I don't know if I dare to do that. We'll see. I love the word and will have to chew on this again (that's my way of "working"...) Thanks!

  7. Hi this is my interpretation of the prompt 'The Unknown'. I used acrylic paint, gel pen and then sewed a piece on in the corner.

  9. I enjoyed this one: Bohemian Shadows post

My pages are too fragile to sew on them. I realised afterwards that I could have sewn a separate piece and then glued it on.
