THE PROMPT: If I were an Open Book
ie: if you could be any character, from any of your favorite books, who would you be, and why?
THE STUFF: Book page background
THE TECHNIQUE: update Picassa and use the Pencil Sketch to create a "sketch" self portrait of yourself. Then print it onto your book page background. Use THIS ARTWORK as your inspiration.
RACHEL
I started with this photo, and used pencil sketch along with shadows and highlights etc... to achieve the last image. Then I printed it onto my book background.
I enhanced lines, and added hair... (my current style, not the one in the picture) I made my hairline a little too low changes the entire image/look and now it doesn't look like me! Then I used water color pencils and some craft paint to add shadowing and dimension back into the image. Here's my finished product... it creeps me out a little how much this doesn't look like me. lol
Here's a couple detail shots. I wrote words that tell my story at the ends of my hair...

Ok how inspiring was that piece of artwork?? I loved being challenged
for this and I ended up printing my sketched picture of myself out onto
some patterned paper that I just cut into a 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet and
fed through my printer. I then layered that onto some dictionary style
paper and tried to stick to the color scheme of the artwork we were
shown. This was something I would have never thought about doing so
thanks Rachel! I loved how this turned out and did some mega journaling
on things that I wish I could change about myself.

I love reading. And for me, its hard to pick a favorite character, I
love them all! But with the new let's turn this book into a movie, im
proud to say that I read the Hunger Games. I actually enjoyed the main
character and didn't think she was as annoying as some of the leads in
the young adult novels are. So Miss Katniss, in my book, you rock!
LINDA
This was a fun page to make.
First I made the background with a book page and the memories journaling card. The black and blue painting and mist are leftovers from other projects.
In Norway we have a writer of children's books that we are very proud of, Thorbjørn Egner. One of his books are Karius and Baktus, Two Tooth Troll. One of my favorite books and films when I was a small kid.
I've made my own version of the trolls. Used a cut out from a fashion magazine and added some colors.
I found a YouTube video of them with English speak if anyone wants to have a look.
Thank you, Linda
The rules- Use all three or just one or two parts of the prompts.
- MAKE THEM YOURS. These prompts are IDEAS. They are not set in stone. I do encourage you to stretch yourself. If you find a prompt doesn't speak to you, think on it. Find a way to MAKE it speak to you, and go with that.
- There is NO right or wrong.
- Share your feedback positively. ABSOLUTELY no judging of what others share. (If I find that people aren't following this rule, I will remove links left by that person.)
- This is a place for you to explore! It doesn't matter if you've just gotten here in the middle of the year, or if you've gotten "behind" and don't create every day. It doesn't matter if you don't create at ALL... (although we'd love it if you do)

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this inspiration. I really enjoyed working on this. http://jessicasporn.blogspot.com/2012/06/weekly-roundup.html
ReplyDeleteI love the one that used her photo and digitally changed it. It is amazing. I love it tons. My little brain started thinking of all sorts of paintings that can come out of that single idea :)
